Harbor Humane Society was founded in 1956 as Ottawa Shores Humane Society. The original building was little more than dogs runs and a house for the caretaker of the shelter. The building you see today was built in 1988 and has easily seen over 120,000 animals pass through the doors. This year, we are excited to embark on improving our shelter as well as building a Community and Training Center to help us better meet the needs of our animals and the community that we serve.

Thanks to generous donors, we are already a quarter of the way to our goal for our new Community and Training Center. This new space will allow us to provide training and a quiet space for the animals at the shelter. It will also help us to engage our community with animal related activities and humane education classes, such as critter camps, public dog training classes, and fun events like kitten yoga. Other long term plans for our shelter include updating flooring, kennels, and our HVAC system.

There are many ways to give. Sponsor a brick to decorate the new walkway by the training room and have your name or your pet’s name become part of our legacy. Make a donation to the project below. Encourage other animal lovers in your life to donate and help us reach our goal.

Our fundraising goal is $350,000. We invite you on this journey with us of helping to improve your community shelter and improve the lives of the animals we serve.

Here are three ways you can get involved with this project:
